Behavior Expectations
Our rules are consistent with Eastover’s school-wide matrix of expectations: S.T.A.R.
Show Kindness
Take Responsibility
Act Safely
Respect Everyone
More specific rules and guidelines will be thoroughly discussed in class. We will use a behavior matrix to communicate individual successes and/or areas in need of improvement.
Consequences for Unacceptable Behaviors
Occasionally children have difficulty following class and school rules. At these times, I will try to redirect the child’s behavior through eye contact, redirection, or quiet reminders. If this does not help to improve the students behavior, one or more of the following consequences will be used:
1.Time-out at a table in the classroom.
This gives the student time to calm down and get ready to rejoin the class activity. If the behavior occurs outside of the classroom (hallway, playground, cafeteria, etc.) variations of this consequence will be used.
2.Time-out in another teacher’s classroom.
This will be used if the unacceptable behavior is not improved by a time-out in our classroom.
3.Note, phone call home, or conference with parent after school.
This might include behavior checklists/matrix completed daily.
4.Loss of privileges.
This includes playground time, centers, etc.
5.Office Referral
This will be used for behaviors that disrupt instruction or threaten others (hitting, kicking, biting, etc.).
This listing is an overview of my discipline policy. Other consequences may be used if they are appropriate for the behavior. Please refer to the Student Handbook for policies regarding suspension and expulsion.
Good Behavior Reward
Individual incentives: Students write their name on the class bingo board. Names will be picked randomly on a weekly basis to receive rewards for good behavior. Prizes can include extra time at recess, lunch outside, assisting another teacher, etc.
Group incentive: "Compliment Parties" - compliments given by other teachers or adults in the building will result in a reward of the students' choosing.
Birthdays
Eastover has a no birthday treat policy. Please do not send in treats on your child’s birthday. However, your child will bring home a birthday journal to record how they celebrated and also have a book to read with you. In the birthday pouch, they will also receive a treat from me. When they come back to class the following school day, they will be allowed to share what they did on their special day.
Tuesday folders
Tuesday Folders are used to communicate any information from the school, PTA, and from the class. Class work will be included. Most information will be sent in this folder, which is sent home only on Tuesday. Please send this folder back on Wednesday.
Parent Involvement
There are so many ways to have a presence in your child's Second grade experience. Here are some examples:
Parent/Teacher Communication
Conferences: A chance to communicate one on one about your child and discuss any concerns or issues. Feel free to schedule one at any time.
Report Cards: These are sent home at the end of each quarter. I will also be sending home progress reports, which help track your child's growth.
